Romance Novels are a particular genre with its own rules. For one thing, according to the Romance Writers of America, you pretty much have to have a happy ending. If not, you are writing a relationship novel (or something else), not a romance. (Think of The Fault in Our Stars – it isn’t just about Hazel and Gus, right?)
Of course, Nicholas Sparks begs to differ – in his list of do’s and don’t’s, he recommends the bittersweet ending. But then, he isn’t technically a genre writer. Chances are, you are interested in writing some other kind of book that includes romance, so be sure to check out our other resource pages.
